Our Story

Built low to the ground, so independence starts early.

Montessori Bed Company makes floor beds designed around how young children actually develop — reviewed with a physician's eye for safety, and a maker's eye for craft.

Why a physician started a bed company

Most of what I know about how children grow, I learned in exam rooms — not showrooms. Years of family medicine visits taught me how much a child's environment shapes their confidence: the shelf they can reach, the door they can open on their own, the bed they can climb into without calling for help.

When I went looking for a floor bed built on that same understanding, I found two kinds of products: beautifully designed ones with no rigor behind the claims, and clinically-worded ones with no craft behind the design. Montessori Bed Company started because that gap didn't need to exist.

A floor bed isn't a trend. It's a small, deliberate lowering of the world to a child's height — and everything that follows from that.

We design every bed the way I'd want it evaluated in clinic: sound materials, honest edges, hardware that holds up to real use, and a height that actually matches how young children move. Then we build it the way a good carpenter would — because good judgment and good craft aren't a trade-off, they're the whole point.

What guides every bed we build

Grounded in Montessori

Independence by design

Low to the floor, open on all sides, and easy to get in and out of unassisted — so a child's bedroom invites them to do things for themselves.

Reviewed clinically

Safety that isn't a guess

Every design is checked against real developmental and safety standards, not marketing copy — the same way I'd want a product recommended to my own patients.

Made to last

Craft over shortcuts

Solid materials, honest joinery, and finishes safe enough for a child who still puts everything in their mouth. Built for one child, then the next.

We think a child's first bed deserves the same care as their first checkup.
